We are very excited to support this initiative as it creates an opportunity for the children of the community to be educated and gives them an opportunity in life whilst also providing a sacred place where the Aboriginal Heritage can be retained and the artists can paint.

Aboriginal-Art highly supports this project believing we can help to bridge the gap between the indigenous and western cultures with the desire to offer benefits of self-development and Improvement, understanding and respect in both cultures and maintaining their heritage and customs through the generations.

Kulpitjarra Community
Kulpitjarra is a small community approximately two hours west of Alice Springs and situated on Aboriginal freehold land. Access is by invitation only by an unmade road just north of the turnoff to Tnorala (Gooses Bluff).

The community consists of several occupied houses, a derelict school building, an amenities block, and other outbuildings in various stages of disrepair. Electricity is supplied from a diesel generator.

Kulpitjarra Art Centre
The proposed Kulpitjarra Art Centre incorporating Luntjarra Outstation is a project initiated by Hubert Pareroultja and Billy Pareroultja. They wish to re-instate their homeland community at Kulpitjarra and create a functioning art centre, school, and place of education where visitors can come to look and learn about Aboriginal culture.

Project’s Vision
Billy’s wife, Keturah Zimran plans to organise bush trips to show people how to live off the land, how to collect the high-protein witchety grubs and also how to dig and collect the well-celebrated honey ants. Visitors will also be able to explore the local landscape and visit the sites important to the local Aboriginal people. They will also be able to watch the artists paint, Hubert Pareroultja won the Wynne Prize at the Art Gallery of NSW in 2020 and the Wandjuk Marika 3D Memorial Award in 2021 at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, sponsored by Telstra.

Including the spectacular sights along the West Macdonnell Ranges, trips will also be organised to Palm Valley where one can see the rock formations at Kalaranga Manta, also known as the Amphitheatre, the Hermannsburg Mission at Ntaria and the extraordinary Kwaritnama (Organ Pipes) on the Finke River.

Volunteers
Our volunteers come from all walks of life, are of all ages and help in many different ways. Carpenters and handy help have stepped forward to assist, from cleaning up the community, cutting grasses, plating trees, removing unwanted items to renovating public buildings.

Volunteers also need support in terms of cash donations and supplies in support of the art centre.

As of writing, the project is still ongoing. If you are interested to be a volunteer for the Kulpitjarra Art Centre Project or want to support the initiative by making a donation, just select an option below.

Your purchase, volunteer works, and donations will enable Aboriginal-Art to raise the necessary funding to assist the much-needed restoration of the Aboriginal-Art Kulpitjarra Art Centre which will bring back the education for the community and retain the love of the Aboriginal Culture and the land. Aboriginal-Art Kulpitjarra Art Centre looks forward to welcoming you once the project will be completed.
