About Jeannie Bruno Nampitjinpa
Jeannie is a Papunya artist who now divides her time between Kintore and Kiwikura. Kanya Tjapangardi, her spouse, is a well-known artist from the Western Desert, notably Kiwikura.
In the late 1990s, Jeannie was encouraged by her husband Kanya to start painting. Her grandmother and biological mother, Nungarri Nungurrayi, passed down their stories to her (now deceased).
Jeannie depicts ladies traveling for days through sandhills (tali) and across hard terrain to reach the sacred location to perform rites in her paintings. Women picking berries, seeds, and tubers, as well as water sources and rockholes, which are frequently dry in what is a difficult desert living.
