About Barney Campbell Tjakamara
Married to Maisey Napaltjarri, Barney has three sons, two daughters. He lives in Alice Springs as he is on the renal program and will move out to Kintore when they get the dialysis machines out there.
Barney was born in the bush and came in with the Pintupi patrols. He was born at Kattaru “where emu sat down”. When he came in from the bush he settled at Papunya then moved to Kintore. He worked at the Kintore School as a janitor and gardener. Part of his job was to take the kids out hunting and teach them the bush skills.
He started painting with the encouragement from Daphne Williams. He helped Dick Kimber and others to track down the “lost tribe” that came in 1984, among them were the renowned artists Walala, Warlimpirringa, and Thomas Tjapaltjarri. Barney’s Dreamings include the Tingari stories of the sand hills, fire, water, and bush tucker.
