About Jake James TJapaltjarri
Jake James Tjapaltjarri was born in the Northern Territory town of Kintore, some 530 kilometers west of Alice Springs, in the year 1962. Jake is the son of renowned artist George Hairbrush Tjungurrayi, and his father taught him his dreaming ‘Tingari.’
Tingari dreaming is very important to Pintupi men because it represents the creation of the land, when tribe ancestors travelled across it and built the landscape and sacred locations.
Jake, paints with bold, aggressive lines that are emphasized by a bright color palette. He is one of the most interesting artists to collect since he works in both dark earthy tones and brilliant primary and monochromatic colors.
